Duties
- Determine specification practicability for complex or costly projects, as well as, prepare statement of work or other binding specification or acquisition performance standards.
- Develop and validate procedures and checklists used by personnel in completing program or project tasks.
- Serve as an authoritative source of information and advice within the organization concerning interior design.
- Evaluate design objectives and employs innovative approaches to meet project needs and requirements.
- Serve as a trouble‑shooter or consulting interior designer, providing technical advice and guidance to the contractor regarding new or complex aspects of assignments or in performing the work required by the contract.
- Perform project management duties for a variety of interior design projects at different facilities and structures.
- Perform interior design duties pertaining to OBD projects and the Robert
F. Kennedy (RFK) building to promote employee productivity, health, and welfare, and the health and welfare of the public.
Conditions of employment:

To qualify for the position of Interior Designer at GS‑1008‑12/13, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below and possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you are applying to.
If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1‑year (52‑weeks) at the next lower grade level to meet the time‑in‑grade requirements. You must also submit an applicable SF‑50.
Basic Requirement- Education: Undergraduate or graduate education with a major study in interior design or other field that included at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the NCIDQ examination. (

Provide a copy of transcripts or certification.) - Experience: Specialized experience that required the performance of work concerning design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs, including identifying, researching, and solving problems; performing services relative to interior spaces, preparing drawings and documents, coordinating disciplines, and managing projects.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the following qualification requirements.
GS‑12You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS‑11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes developing, managing interior design project plans, budgets, and schedules, and resolving interior design problems.
GS‑13You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS‑12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes assisting with analyzing the design, layout and construction or renovation of buildings; preparing statement of work or other binding documentation; and performing preservation, restoration, or rehabilitation pertaining to interior design.
You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including time‑in‑grade, by 05/27/2026.
Foreign EducationIf you are relying on foreign education to meet qualification requirements, you must provide proof that the credentials are equivalent to a conventional U.S. program. Transcripts must be uploaded with your application.
