  • Serve as a member of the Department Heads/Division Heads (D2) Committee, a decision‑making group overseeing the school’s educational program and graduation requirements
  • Demonstrate knowledge of new trends in education through attendance at conferences and seminars, memberships in organizations, and subscriptions to appropriate journals
  • Motivate teachers to embrace collaboration and professional development
  • Serve as a team leader who models respect for others and has the ability to embrace and lead positive change
As an academic leader, the successful candidate will:
  • Establish and maintain, in collaboration with department members and a broader circle of administrators, the departmental philosophy and standards for the development of current and new course offerings within the department
  • Facilitate a clear scope and sequence in grades 5-12 that is developmentally appropriate, innovative, and in line with Maret’s developing Portrait of a Graduate, as well as broader curricular offerings
  • Coordinate and facilitate related competitions, curriculum conferences, and other academic events
  • Lead regular department meetings to discuss programmatic issues and offer support to teachers within the department
  • Hold regular one‑on‑one meetings with all members of the department
  • Educate students and families about the program and coordinate the course selection process
  • Coordinate with other department chairs in order to facilitate cooperation, integration, and cross‑disciplinary work
  • Allot teaching assignments yearly, balancing individual teachers’ talents and interests with overall school needs, and arrange coverage for classes in case of departmental faculty absences
  • Offer input into the schedule, as appropriate
  • Observe each teacher's classes on a regular basis and provide evaluation, constructive feedback, praise, and mentorship for effective teaching; communicate teacher effectiveness and related personnel matters as appropriate
  • Hire Humanities faculty for grades 5-12, in collaboration with the Head of School, Assistant Head for Curriculum Development, and other relevant faculty
  • Exhibit excellent collaboration, communication, leadership, and managerial skills
As a teacher, the successful candidate will:

  • Exhibit a deep passion for teaching and great enthusiasm for working with students of all ages and differing strengths
