This is a 1.0 FTE continuing contract Highly Structured teaching position at Challenger Elementary School effective the school year. The Highly Structured program serves students with Autism or characteristics often associated with Autism who require intensive support and visual‑based instruction. Students’ primary instructional needs include functional communication, self‑regulation, and adaptive skills. Instruction is delivered in groups of 1–2 students with a teacher and 3 classroom para educators.
Students participate in the WA‑AIM alternate assessment.
Class size:
Up to 11 students with a teacher and 3 classroom para educators.
Minimum Requirements: Valid Washington State teaching certificate with a special education endorsement.

Job SummaryPlan, prepare, and deliver a quality educational program based upon state standards, district curriculum, IEP goals, and effective instruction to students with diverse needs.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Plan and provide clear and intentional focused instruction based upon individual student IEP goals using state standards, subject matter content, and district curriculum.
- Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement.
- Implement effective teaching practices to facilitate achievement for each student.
- Use multiple student data elements to assess student progress, modify instruction, and improve learning.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community to foster student success and meet special education laws and policies.
- Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment to promote effective student behavior and success.
- Maintain and submit information/records including student progress.
- Participate in and facilitate various meetings to address student goals and needs, including school and department meetings, manifestation determination, eligibility, evaluation, and placement.
- Maintain and process accurate records/documents as required by state and federal regulations and district policy.
- Direct the work of assigned classified staff.
- Implement and comply with district policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.
