ELEMENTARY ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Dieringer Heights Elementary School Position Summary

The Elementary Assistant Principal supports the Principal in providing instructional leadership and operational management to ensure a safe, inclusive, and high‑achieving learning environment for all students. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with the principal, staff, students, families, and the community to promote academic excellence, positive school culture, and continuous improvement aligned with the mission and goals of Dieringer Heights Elementary and the District.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional Leadership
  • Support the implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices that improve student learning and achievement.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the school improvement plan using student performance data and research‑based practices.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to support professional growth and effective instructional practices.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure equitable learning opportunities and address the needs of all learners, including special education, multilingual learners, and highly capable students.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement through professional learning communities and collaborative staff development.
School Climate and Student Support
  • Foster a positive, safe, and welcoming school climate where diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect are valued.
  • Support the implementation of student behavior systems, restorative practices, and multi‑tiered systems of support (MTSS).
  • Assist in monitoring student attendance, behavior, and academic progress to identify and support students in need of intervention.
  • Work with staff and families to resolve student concerns and maintain a supportive learning environment.
  • Help ensure compliance with district policies, student discipline procedures, and state and federal regulations.
Staff Supervision and Development
  • Assist in supervising, supporting, and evaluating certificated and classified staff as assigned.
  • Promote shared leadership and collaborative decision‑making among staff.
  • Encourage professional growth through coaching, mentoring, and job‑embedded learning opportunities.
  • Build positive staff relationships that support trust, accountability, and high performance.
Family and Community Engagement
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and community partners.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding school programs, expectations, and student needs.
  • Encourage family involvement in school activities and student success.
  • Respond professionally to community concerns and help facilitate conflict resolution when needed.
Building Operations and Management
  • Assist in the day‑to‑day management of school operations to ensure an orderly and efficient school environment.
  • Support the supervision of campus safety procedures, emergency preparedness, and crisis response protocols.
  • Assist in managing building resources, schedules, and programs to support student learning.
  • Help maintain compliance with district procedures, board policies, and legal requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or District administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of elementary instructional practices and school improvement processes.
  • Understanding of student behavior systems, MTSS, and restorative practices.
  • Ability to analyze data and use it to guide instructional and operational decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws related to student services and school operations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and student‑centered leadership.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Washington State Principal Certificate.
  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field.
  • Successful experience as a classroom teacher.
