Intermittent Library Associate IV (Multiple Vacancies)

Central Library and Various Branch Libraries, City of Seattle

Intermittent, FLSA non-exempt, part-time, on-call

These positions may be deployed to any SPL location.

These positions will be assigned a maximum of 1040 hours per 12 month period.

This is a non-exempt, temporary on-call employment opportunity and may end at any time at the discretion of the Library. With the exception of sick leave, this classification is not eligible for benefits. In lieu of benefits, premium pay starting at 5% is applied in addition to the pay rate for this appointment based on hours worked.

Hourly Rate: 38.96 per hour

A pay period is two weeks in length that starts on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday. Schedules may include weekdays, weekends and evenings, and are subject to change based on the Library’s current operational need. This classification is part of a bargaining unit represented by AFSCME.

The Library Associate IV classification provides a broad range of information services for the Library’s patrons, including assisting patrons with locating and using Library resources, performing bibliographic searches and other basic reference work. In addition, the Library Associate IV classification provides readers' advisory services and assists patrons with using Library equipment.

Library Associate IV staff members are primarily responsible for service and operation of the information desk and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for patrons. This includes interacting with patrons regarding the Library’s Community Use Agreement and using de-escalation skills to support patrons’ successful use of the library. The Library Associate IV will regularly serve as a branch building lead.

The Library Associate IV provides circulation services as well as technical and administrative support. The Library Associate IV must use sound judgment when assessing requests for information and utilize a variety of skills to locate information for patrons. They will also determine when to refer questions to others within the Library who may more effectively respond to a particular request.
