This is a 0.4 FTE continuing contract resource teaching position at Discovery Elementary School. Anticipated hours are 8:15 am – 11:21 am.
Minimum requirements:
Valid Washington State teaching certificate with a special education endorsement.

Job TitleSpecial Services Teacher
Job SummaryPlan, prepare and deliver a quality educational program based upon state standards, district curriculum, IEP goals, and effective instruction to students with diverse needs.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Plan and provide clear, intentional, focused instruction based upon individual student IEP goals using state standards, subject matter content, and district curriculum.
- Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs to promote individual achievement.
- Implement effective teaching practices to facilitate achievement for each student.
- Use multiple student data elements to assess progress, modify instruction, and improve learning.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community to foster student success, meeting special education laws and policies.
- Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment to promote effective behavior and success.
- Maintain and submit student progress records.
- Participate in and facilitate meetings (school, department, manifestation determination, eligibility, evaluation, and placement) to address student goals and meet laws and policies.
- Maintain accurate records/documents as required by State and Federal regulations and district policy.
- Direct the work of assigned classified staff.
- Implement and comply with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.
- Fulfill additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
- Knowledge of applicable Washington State and federal rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to the assignment.
- Knowledge of, and skills in, using effective instructional strategies and practices.
- Knowledge of, and skills in, using formative and summative assessments.
- Ability to address a wide range of academic and social needs including at‑risk students, cultural diversity, English language learners, and special education students.
- Knowledge and skill in designing and conducting specialized instruction, remediation, and evaluation.
- Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior.
- Knowledge of and ability to meet students’ developmental needs.
- Ability to interact and collaborate positively with parents, students, staff, and administrators.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats with a variety of constituents.
- Organizational, time‑management, and record‑keeping skills.
- Ability to operate technology devices and specific software programs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to strengthening job‑related competencies.
- Valid Washington State certification with appropriate endorsement(s).
- Meet highly qualified requirements relative to assignment.
Education and Experience
- Successful experience as a special education teacher preferred.
- Second language or language acquisition background preferred.
- Experience with student cultural and economic diversity preferred.
