Position: 1:1 Para educator, Job 26-0538 FA

1:1 Para educator

Starting Date: Sep 1, 2026

This is a 3‑hour per day, 180‑days per year, 1:1 Para educator position at Fairmount Elementary School. Medical or dental benefits are not included. Anticipated start date is September 1, 2026.

Hours: 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the teacher in the classroom with a student requiring 1:1 support in a general education setting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting students with social emotional needs, academic supports, and working with students with Autism.
  • Experience or knowledge with Trauma Informed Practices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Basic WA State Para qualifications.
  • Experience working with children.

Hourly salary listed is the 2025‑2026 rate.

Job Summary

Assist the teacher with planning, preparation, and delivery of a quality instructional program based upon state standards, district curriculum, and effective instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, library, and during transportation; perform crossing guard duties before and after school. May assist with the implementation of special education services for students, including IEP goals, medical assistance, physical support, and personal care.

Performance

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Assist teacher(s) with daily supervision of students to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Administer student tests, collect and maintain diagnostic data, update student records, and assess student progress.
  • Assist teacher(s) with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff.
  • Implement strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
  • Provide clerical and general classroom assistance, including data entry, correspondence, copying, filing, and preparation of classroom materials.
  • Administer first aid, medical assistance, physical support, and personal care for ill, medically fragile, and/or disabled children.
  • Provide physical assistance for students with special needs, such as feeding, toileting, lifting, positioning, and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Track and dispense authorized student medications.
  • Perform crossing guard duties to supervise and monitor students.
  • Assist with safety in the cafeteria and during recess.
  • Participate in meetings and training to share information, improve skills, implement school initiatives, and address student needs.
  • Comply with District Policies.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned work site and work specified hours.
  • Be subject to reassignment of job duties depending on program, building, and student needs as assigned by supervisor(s).
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation.

  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in a frequently interrupted environment.
  • Willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
  • Ability to provide for the physical, health, and safety needs of students.
  • Ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning.
  • Ability to strengthen job‑related competencies.
Education/Certification
  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high‑school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet one of the following requirements:
    • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
    • Earned 72 quarter credits, or 48 semester credits, at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university.
