This position assists with the operation of the TRiO Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) Program at the target school, Marysville Pilchuck High School. The UBMS Program provides pre-college motivational and learning experiences to area high school students with the goal of increasing the percentage of low-income, first-generation students who successfully pursue and complete postsecondary education opportunities. This position is co-located at our partner school Marysville Pilchuck High School and Everett Community College campus.

This position is not eligible for hybrid work location, per Everett Community College’s Telework Policy.

Position Number

Academic Support Services
  • Provide navigational support to students on high school academic issues, post-secondary preparation and selection, careers and finances.
  • Assist students in developing and implementing an Education Success Plan (ESP), monitor success through student management databases, teacher and student contacts and intervene when appropriate.
  • Coordinate, support and supervise the development and implementation of experiential/educational activities (Saturday sessions, summer institute, tutoring evenings, etc.).
  • Document participant attendance at events, tutoring sessions, and other program activities.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with high school personnel and community members.
Outreach & Retention
  • Recruit eligible UMBS students and confirm eligibility requirements are met and that recruitment is closely coordinated with similar programs and school personnel.
  • Identify, assess and develop retention strategies for any barriers to participant’s success, including referrals to appropriate services and family engagement.
  • Meet recruiting goals.
Grant Compliance
  • Maintain recruiting records for each target school.
  • Oversee and record the distribution of stipends provided to program participants.
  • Keep participant records current, ensuring assessments and tracking data comply with Department of Education mandates.
General Duties
  • Participate in departmental and college events and activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and grant operations.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, social service, counseling or a related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in the areas of college and career readiness programming, coaching, mentoring.
  • Experience with low-income, 1st generation college, and disadvantaged students.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in computer applications software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and database systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish rapport with high school students from various backgrounds and with school, college, and community education professionals.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
  • Experience with programs related to assisting students with bridging from high school to college.
  • Proven ability to network and develop successful partnerships.
  • Knowledge of high school curriculum, financial aid, and college application process.
  • Experience with editing web content, and using social networking communication tools.

Terms of Employment
  • Full-time position, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Overtime eligible – FLSA non-exempt
  • Position is subject to Everett Community College policies and procedures.
  • Represented by Washington Federation of State Employees Union.
  • Performance will be evaluated after a six (6) month probationary period and annually.
