An 8th Grade Math Teacher in a Tennessee public school instructs students in foundational algebra and geometry concepts aligned with the Tennessee Academic Standards for Mathematics. This role requires a valid Tennessee teaching license with a Middle Grades Math (4-8) or Secondary Math (6-12) endorsement. Beyond standard school hours, teachers are required to attend evening community events, parent conferences, and professional meetings.

Core

Responsibilities
  • Instruction:
    Plan and deliver standard-aligned lessons focusing on linear equations, functions, and the Pythagorean Theorem.
  • Data-Driven Remediation:
    Use TCAP (Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program) practice data to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
  • Classroom Management:
    Maintain a structured, supportive environment that encourages mathematical problem-solving and collaboration.
  • Communication:
    Partner with parents, specialized coaches, and administrators to track and report student progress.
After-Hours Event Commitments
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences:
    Attend mandatory evening sessions to review academic performance and TCAP readiness with families.
  • Open House & Math Nights:
    Participate in annual back-to-school nights and Title I STEM or family math community events.
  • Staff & IEP Meetings:
    Remain after school for required faculty workshops, professional learning communities (PLCs), and 504/IEP student placement reviews.
  • Extracurricular

    Activities:

    Chaperone school dances, supervise graduation promotion events, or sponsor clubs like Mu Alpha Theta or STEM teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education:

    Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensure:
    Valid Tennessee teaching license with appropriate endorsement codes (e.g., 013 - Middle Grades 4-8, 122 - Middle Grades Math 6-8, or 413 - Secondary Math 6-12).
  • Testing:
    Passing score on the required Praxis subject assessment for Tennessee licensure.
