Para educator

This is a 6.0 hours per day, 145 days per year (Monday - Thursday), Para educator position with benefits at Pathfinder Kindergarten Center. Anticipated start date is September 1, 2026. Hours for this position are 9:15 a.m.

- 4:15 p.m. (includes 30 minute lunch and 30 minutes of unpaid time from 12:15 p.m.

- 1:15 p.m). The successful candidate will work under the direction of the teacher in the Developmental and Communication Preschool classroom.

Assist the teacher with planning, preparation and delivery of a quality instructional program based upon state standards, district curriculum, and effective instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, library, assistance for students riding the bus, and perform crossing guard duties before and after school. May assist with implementation of special education services for students i.e., IEP goals, medical assistance, physical support and personal care.

• Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
• Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
• Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students.
• Demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and the use of adaptive equipment as required.
• Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning.
• Ability to strengthen job-related competencies.

Education/Certification:

• Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Meet one of the following requirements:
• Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or
• Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university, or
• Completed an apprenticeship as a para educator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council, or
• Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments:
• ETS Para Pro Assessment.
• Pearson's Paraprofessional Assessment.
• The Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program.
• Depending on assignment, may be required to complete behavior modification programs, including safe physical restraining techniques and/or other training as required.

Job related experience desired.
