General Function:

A Substitute Teacher is an on-call position that is generally responsible for providing assistance and support to other ECEAP or licensed childcare center staff. The substitute will receive instruction and guidance from the site manager. Other on-site staff may provide directions as needed or desired. Although every effort will be made in providing substitutes with as much advance notice as possible, there will be times when our programs may need to call upon the services at the last minute.

Principal

Activities:

Provide classroom support as assigned to ensure continuity of care and learning when regular teaching staff are absent.

Supervise and actively engage with children to promote learning, ensure their safety, maintain required adult-to-child ratios, and respond to individual developmental and behavioral needs.

Facilitate age-appropriate small group activities that support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

Model professional practices that align with ECEAP Performance Standards, Washington State licensing requirements, and agency policies and procedures.

Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment by completing routine housekeeping and classroom preparation tasks.

Observe children's behavior and development and communicate concerns or significant observations to the Site Program Manager.

Adapt to different classrooms, teaching teams, and daily routines while providing consistent, high-quality support to staff and children.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support program operations and ensure quality services for children and families.

Provides consistent, high-quality classroom support that ensures a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children when regular staff are unavailable. By maintaining compliance with ECEAP Performance Standards, state licensing requirements, and agency policies, this position helps minimize disruptions to program operations while supporting positive developmental outcomes for children and reliable services for families.#voaww1

Qualifications:

Substitutes are required to meet the same qualifications as those individuals working in the state funded ECEAP program or in licensed childcare.

Associate or higher degree with the equivalent of 30 college quarter credits in early childhood education preferred.

Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade
3) or Early Childhood Special Education preferred.

Substitutes are required to have the following documents on file with the agency if they are applicable:

College transcripts STARS training certificates

Current infant, child and adult first aid/CPR certification HIV/AIDS and Blood-Borne Pathogens training

Hepatitis B vaccination

Negative TB test results
