Job Title:

Airworthiness & Regulatory Engineer (Mid-Level)

Job Description

This full-time, onsite Airworthiness & Regulatory Engineer (Mid-Level) role focuses on safety, compliance, and detailed root cause investigations related to regulatory compliance issues for commercial airplanes. You will independently lead cross-functional teams through structured Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, enabling leadership to understand systemic root causes and implement effective corrective actions that contain issues and prevent recurrence. The position offers broad exposure to airplane certification across the entire lifecycle and plays a critical role in maintaining and restoring compliance with regulatory requirements, contributing directly to product safety.

Responsibilities

+ Lead and facilitate detailed RCCA investigations for issues associated with FAA Letters of Investigation, informal or formal compliance actions, voluntary disclosures, self-audit findings, and Part 25 airworthiness non-compliances.

+ Guide functional engineering organizations, including Systems, Structures, Payloads, and Propulsion, through a structured investigation process using the Boeing Problem Solving Model (BPSM) or similar methods.

+ Define clear problem statements and develop comprehensive root cause investigations that identify systemic root causes rather than isolated issues.

+ Develop and document effective containment actions, actions to prevent recurrence, and actions to verify non-recurrence for regulatory compliance issues.

+ Coordinate closely with internal functional groups, management, executives, and suppliers to ensure all stakeholders remain aligned on investigation status, findings, and resolution plans.

+ Work collaboratively with the Organizational Designation Authorization (ODA) to ensure investigation reports and documentation meet regulatory expectations and standards.

+ Partner with enterprise teams to continuously improve investigation processes, tools, and methods so they remain aligned with broader enterprise practices and future business needs.

+ Communicate complex technical and regulatory issues clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, including engineers, non-engineers, and executive leadership.

+ Apply airplane-level systems thinking to a wide range of technical and compliance issues, ensuring that safety and certification considerations are fully addressed.

+ Demonstrate initiative by taking ownership of assigned investigations and tasks, ensuring that work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.

+ Lead and influence cross-functional teams and projects, fostering collaboration among diverse engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.

+ Support the broader aviation safety organization and program teams as a trusted resource for safety, compliance, and certification matters.

+ Participate in rare domestic travel, as needed, to support investigations or coordination activities.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry.

+ Typically 5 or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of advanced technical education and experience (for example, PhD, or Master's degree plus 3 or more years of related experience).

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical and regulatory topics to varied audiences.

+ Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse, cross-functional team of engineers and non-engineers.

+ Demonstrated aptitude for taking initiative and leading cross-functional teams and projects.

+ Ability and willingness to take ownership of investigations and work activities, ensuring accurate, efficient, and timely completion.

+ Eligibility as a U.S. Person under 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 (for export control compliance purposes).

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Working knowledge of Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) tools such as 5-Whys or Fishbone diagrams and experience applying structured problem-solving approaches such as the Boeing Problem Solving Model (BPSM).
