Senior Fuel Fabrication Engineer
Terra Power, LLC is seeking a highly motivated Fuel Fabrication Engineer to support the development efforts of the Fuel Fabrication Supply and Testing team. This role will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers focused on process development for nuclear fuel fabrication for sodium cooled fast reactors. You will be responsible for a wide range of process development, supplier oversight, and technical troubleshooting and optimization.
Responsibilities
- Work within an interdisciplinary team to perform a wide range of laboratory-based fuel research and development activities to support the Natrium reactor program
- Support the development, execution, documentation, and communication of work plans for a team of engineers and report on status for the development of metallic fuel fabrication
- Apply quantitative and statistical techniques to assess experimental outcomes and support data-driven conclusions, and recommend path forward with Design of Experiment (DOE) in mind
- Design, fabrication, and operate custom laboratory experiments
- Safely handle radiological material in accordance with company processes and WA state law
- Greater than 5 years of experience plus a B.S. degree; or an advanced degree with equivalent experience
- A degree in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required
- Hands-on laboratory experience
- Experience with metallic fuel is highly desired. A background in Materials Engineering and/or associated skills is preferred if no direct metallic fuel experience
- Lab management experience (e.g., maintaining spaces and/or equipment and training users) is preferred but not required
- Experience with radioactive material handling in a laboratory environment is a plus
- Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork
- Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications
