Senior Hardware Development Engineer, NPD Hardware
Amazon Web Services’ Network Products Development team is looking for experienced hardware engineering professionals to help build our next generation networking platforms. The right candidate will play a key role in the design and development of our next generation Ethernet switching platforms for our world class data centers. Strong experience in modular chassis based enterprise/carrier products is a must.
Responsibilities- Lead the architectural definition, specification, and key component selection for Ethernet switching platforms.
- Design and develop high‑speed digital circuits for terabit switch fabrics, 10/40/100 Gb/s interfaces, embedded CPU subsystems, and network processors.
- Collaborate closely with PCB designers for layout, signal integrity, and thermal analysis.
- Conduct design verification, timing analysis, thermal analysis, and EMC testing.
- Transition designs to manufacturing, working with Asian ODM and JDM partners throughout development and production.
- Manage component selection, supply‑chain considerations, and production support.
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- BSEE with 10+ years experience in hardware board and systems development, including taking products from concept to mass production.
- Recent 5+ years experience with Ethernet switching fabrics, Ethernet PHY and Ser Des interfaces, embedded CPU subsystems, DDR2/DDR3/DDR4 memory design, network processors, I2C, USB.
- Experience with high‑speed PCB design and AC/DC power integration, and 5+ years of CPLD/FPGA design using VHDL or Verilog.
- Proficient in troubleshooting with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, PCI analyzers, and in‑circuit emulators.
- Strong cross‑functional collaboration with mechanical, hardware, SI, diagnostic, and manufacturing engineers as well as external vendors and developers.
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
- Project‑management experience for technical projects.
- Experience defining and implementing modular chassis functions such as system redundancy, hot‑swap, power distribution, environmental control, and system management.
- Advanced CPLD/FPGA experience in hardware control, monitoring, and logging.
- Experience in specifying mechanical enclosures.
- Knowledge of analog design, signal‑integrity analysis, DC‑DC switcher design, EDVT, and MDVT is an asset.
