The Seattle office is seeking a Structural Designer to apply engineering skills to a variety of diverse and challenging projects in an environment that supports professional growth and community impact.
PositionStructural Designer – Seattle, WA
The successful candidate will have zero to five years of experience in the design and drafting of structural systems for educational, residential, commercial, healthcare, industrial, and state/federal facilities. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
Required Qualifications- Technical or Associate degree, equivalent technical school training, or equivalent work experience.
- Technical/Professional expertise with zero to five years of structural design experience in a structural engineering environment.
- Demonstration of verbal and written organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit is required; proficiency with Revit is strongly preferred.
- Prepare layouts; provide input for design proposals and drawings; analyze and resolve design and production issues in areas such as structural systems.
- Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into design development and final construction drawings; determine scale and prepare layouts for detailing.
- Become familiar with accepted design/drafting methods, engineering principles, terminology, and construction materials.
- Provide recommendations for design adaptations and modifications.
- Under supervision, incorporate decision recommendations; make decisions regarding design suitability using knowledge of specified product materials and production processes.
- Apply codes, identify alternatives and solutions to code exceptions, and devise new approaches to problems encountered.
- Perform mathematical calculations using engineering formulas and analysis tools.
- Coordinate with architectural, mechanical, and electrical design disciplines.
- Represent the firm professionally to enhance client confidence and foster future work or referrals; follow office and design procedures.
- Ensure that work is completed on time and within budget.
- Promote opportunities for new work and gather client feedback on performance; build relationships with clients.
- Pursue continued education, training, certifications, and networking opportunities; stay updated on code changes, industry trends, and applicable tools.
- Under close supervision, work on a variety of projects as assigned by a Project Manager.
- Assist in calculations and details required for project delivery; utilize familiarity with structural design and drafting practices and software.
- Be prepared to perform other job-related duties as required within the scope of the position.
- Competitive salary (example range provided in original description: $68,000 – $85,000 per year).
