General Job Description
Dogwood Industries is seeking a Cost Accountant to join our team. This individual will specialize in managing and analyzing the costs associated with a company's business activities. Their primary role is to understand the financial impact of business decisions, manage company costs, and improve profitability. Attention to detail and ownership of the process is a priority.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Completes complex month end reconciliations, cost summaries, and journal entries as assigned
- Proficient in project-level budgeting and forecasting (tracking and gathering forecast inputs, trend analysis, modeling financial drivers, sensitivity analysis, risk assessment, cost accounting, etc.)
- Prepare detailed reports including historical results, variance analyses, forecasts, and financial trends to support management decision-making (operating results, budgeting, etc.), external reporting requirements (government surveys, tax filings, audits, etc.), and calculations to support revenue recognition
- Apply sound research and professional judgment to all tasks
- Provide routine guidance and respond to inquiries from departments outside of Finance/Accounting
- Ensure compliance with internal control requirements and assist with tracking and monitoring internal control compliance
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and support implementation of process enhancements to improve cost, efficiency, customer satisfaction, and compliance with company and regulatory requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and interpret standard business communication.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and vendors and employees
- Ability to effectively present information to other employees including management
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions) to practical business situations; define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form to execute established processes
- Ability to process paper records and large volumes of electronic records and operate standard office equipment (printer, copier, scanner)
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
This position requires moderate physical activity, primarily in an office environment but may include visits to the manufacturing facilities or jobsites to collaborate and inspect materials. To perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly seated at a computer desk with the option to stand, is utilizing the telephone frequently, and participating in meetings with colleagues, clients, third party vendors, etc.
There are stairs in the office. In the factory setting, you may inspect and handle materials and be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes, and odors.
Compensation
$85,000 - $99,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
