Salary: $8,224.00 - $10,695.00/month plus excellent benefits.

The City of Everett is accepting applications on an appointive basis for the position of Senior Financial Analyst within the Public Works Department.

The Public Works Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the City’s water, sewer, drainage, and streets systems. This department has over 300 staff members in six divisions:
Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Finance & Support Services, Permit Services, and Public Education & Information. Each division contains multiple work groups that specialize in different functions to help support the City’s critical infrastructure.

Nature of Work

Under the direction of a department director or designee, evaluate multifaceted financial information, prepare reports indicating trends, provide recommendations to management and respond to inquiries for professional counsel related to financial information requiring complex financial analysis work. This level is more focused on the analysis of financial information and not on daily operations. The incumbent may be asked to lead in the development and implementation of new/revised accounting procedures, and in coordinating/executing accounting‑related special projects that often require an expert knowledge of the linkages between systems/operations/processes.

Work is performed under broad supervision, with regular opportunity to apply independent judgment, decision‑making and recommendation for action. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports and by periodic audits. Responsibility may include the supervision with respect to lower‑level accounting support staff.

Illustrative Examples of Work
  • Performs professional‑level accounting, finance, and budget functions and statistical analysis for the area of assignment; serves as a technical resource to City staff on a variety of purchasing, budgeting, accounting, and analytical issues; duties may vary according to job assignment; incumbent serves as subject‑matter expert in area of assignment.
  • Researches, audits, and analyzes accounting and technical transactions to resolve questions and validate data; verifies fiscal accountability and fund integrity for all transactions.
  • Coordinates fixed asset accountability for the City including inventory.
  • Ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of City financial activities and work products; monitors documents for accuracy and compliance with Federal, State, and local policies and practices.
  • Consults with City staff on financial, technical, and accounting issues; researches issues and recommends solutions; provides advice and assistance on technical procedures and account status.
  • Prepares financial statements, including research and data analysis, corrections, supporting documentation, notes, statistical tables, schedules, and other supplemental information as required.
  • Coordinates the preparation of City budgets; develops budget procedures, worksheets, reports, and forms; reviews and analyzes budget submittals and develops recommendations; provides technical assistance and training to departments; prepares financial models and projections.
