Position: Economic Fellow, Economic Program (2026-2027)

About the Position

Third Way’s Economic Program is seeking a fellow to join a dynamic team working to develop and advance a modern economic agenda that makes the middle class more affordable and attainable.

We are looking for public policy enthusiasts to help tackle the challenges that threaten the middle class, including the rising costs of childcare, education, health care, housing, and retirement.

The fellow will report to the Deputy Director of the Economic Program.

Typical Day
  • Conduct research, analyze data, and author high‑impact memos, reports, and presentations on the U.S. economy and the middle class;
  • Develop original policy briefs that offer innovative ideas to policymakers;
  • Monitor media, government reports, NGOs, and academia to stay informed on economic issues;
  • Build expertise on topics such as jobs, employment benefits, the federal budget, taxes, international trade, AI and automation, infrastructure, financial markets, and rural development;
  • Support other team members with research and minor administrative tasks as needed.
Compensation and Benefits

Annual stipend of $65,000, two weeks paid vacation, comprehensive health care and benefits, and five paid Career Development Days dedicated to job searching, networking, and interviews.

The program offers opportunities to meet with top Washington policy leaders, co‑author papers, collaborate with policy teams, and learn Third Way’s research methodology.

Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (master’s) in a related field;
  • Strong research and writing skills;
  • Interest in U.S. politics and the policy process;
  • Ability to work independently on projects while collaborating with a team;
  • Excellent communication, including the ability to explain complex concepts simply;
  • Diplomacy and discretion when dealing with external stakeholders;
  • Intellectual curiosity and a capacity to solve problems creatively;
  • Experience working with and visualizing data in Microsoft Excel.
Fellowship Term

Term begins Tuesday, August 25th, 2026 and ends Thursday, August 12th, 2027.
