Position: Nutritionist RD - Hourly

Position Summary

The Registered Dietitian (RD) is responsible for nutrition high risk counseling and assisting with the WIC certification process if serving at a WIC site. The RD may also provide patient risk assessment, nutrition education, and nutrition services for patients of the Medical Clinics, Home Health Agency, MSS, and Substance Abuse Treatment Centers.

Core Responsibilities
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date charts and statistical program records (e.g., EPIC records, WIC flow sheet, WIC diet records, certification sheets, weight/height grids, diet evaluation sheets, infant birth outcomes, appointment schedules).
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with team members and other Sea Mar staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between Nutrition and/or WIC and other clinic and community services and make referrals as appropriate.
  • Assist with clerical and statistical program work as needed.
  • Attend selected clinic, MSS, PHS Department and WIC meetings and participate in continuing education as needed.
  • Act as a preceptor for dietetic interns, as appropriate.
  • Follow all organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Clinical Duties
  • Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) appropriate to the age and needs of patients.
  • Conduct assessments using standard assessment tools, including weighing, measuring, hematocrits, growth grids, and dietary evaluations.
  • Document assessments, treatment, and plan of action in the medical record.
  • Provide individual and group nutrition education as per program guidelines.
  • Coordinate services with other health professionals and other departments.
  • Implement WIC eligibility determination, package setting, benefit issuance, and documentation.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in working efficiently with self‑direction and proactive problem solving.
  • Patience, empathy, and ability to work with multicultural clientele under stress.
  • Cooperative teamwork skills within a healthcare team.
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nutrition from an accredited university.
  • Completed an accredited dietetic internship or coordinated undergraduate program.
  • WA State Registration and Certification for Dietitian or RD/CD.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret professional journals, write medical chart notes, and develop nutrition education materials.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other) or bicultural preference.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification at time of hire and maintenance throughout employment.
  • Clear background check, TB test, and oath of confidentiality.
  • Compliance with additional annual screening and influenza vaccine.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must sign a permanent confidentiality oath covering all patient‑related information.
  • Clear background check must be cleared before employment.
  • Must have and maintain a TB test annually.
  • Must obtain BLS CPR within 90 days of hire and maintain current certification.
  • Must obtain influenza vaccine annually.
Physical Requirements

Employees are regularly required to walk, use hands, reach, stand, sit, and talk or hear. Employees may need to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift 35 pounds above 4 feet without assistance. Must meet specific vision requirements and be able to sit at a computer for extended periods.

Work Environment

Employees may need to own or have access to an insured vehicle for home visits and operate at various Sea Mar locations. Work hours may include flexible hours and travel within Western Washington. Noise levels are moderate to moderately high.

Compensation

Hourly wage: $34.40 per hour.
