Companion Sitter - Home Health

Job Overview

Entry‑level employee trained to provide homemaker services in the home. Works under the direction, instruction, and supervision of the Case Manager.

• Assist in maintaining a healthful, safe environment for the client.
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals.
• Provide positive emotional support while performing tasks in the client’s home.
• Perform routine housekeeping tasks as specified in the plan of care, including light housekeeping, meal preparation, dishwashing, bed making, laundry, and shopping.
• Establish a trusting and confidential relationship with the client and the client’s family.
• Complete visit reports with time in and time out, document services provided, obtain the client’s signature, and submit reports per guidelines.
• Report any client concerns or changes in condition to the Agency Supervisor or Agency Manager.
• Carry out assignments as instructed by the plan of care and notify the supervisor if unable to complete them.
• Collaborate with personnel from other agencies involved in the client’s care, as directed by the Agency Supervisor or Agency Manager.
• Always maintain confidentiality and follow ethical standards.
• Perform only those functions specified in the plan of care; do not provide hands‑on or skilled care.
• Follow emergency procedures in the event of an incident, accident, injury, or significant change in the client’s condition and report promptly to the Agency Supervisor or Agency Manager.

• Completion of the ninth (9th) grade; high school graduation preferred.
• Ability to read and write consistent with job requirements.
• Possess emotional and cognitive maturity necessary for establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, families, and Agency personnel.
• Neat and clean personal appearance.
• Free of health problems that may be injurious to clients, self, or coworkers; must provide required documentation and annual TB skin test proof to Human Resources.
• Reliable transportation to travel to client homes.
• Evidence of appropriate companion/sitter knowledge and skills related to: appropriate work experience and/or caregiving experience; methodology for assisting clients to achieve maximum self‑reliance; principles of nutrition and meal preparation; principles of the aging process and emotional issues related to illness and long‑term home care; procedures for maintaining a clean, healthful, and pleasant environment; maintenance of ethics and confidentiality of client care;
  
  roles of healthcare team members and inter‑relationships in care; providing information for supervisors and maintaining appropriate records (plan of care, reports, timesheets); basic housekeeping tasks; interest in people; good judgment and tact; proper hygiene and basic safety and sanitation; standard precautions and basic infection prevention and control practices.
• Awareness that counseling is available for challenging cases and potentially dangerous situations.

Standard Rate: $19.00 – $21.50 per hour.
