Lead Medical TechnologistUnder general supervision, the Lead Medical Technologist is accountable for performing laboratory procedures and evaluations to assist physicians in diagnosis and provide quality patient care. As a technologist in the microbiology laboratory, you will perform all aspects of routine and complex testing, applying knowledge of techniques, principles, quality control, and instrumentation, and recognize, troubleshoot, and initiate corrective action in a timely manner.
The role also includes lead technologist duties, assignments, and assistance to the Laboratory Supervisor.
- Accurately identify patients and patient samples per policy.
- Maintain specimen integrity.
- Efficiently and accurately report results from the computer screen.
- Document received and open dates on supplies as required by policy.
- Effectively communicate status of workload to supervisor or incoming staff.
- Demonstrate use of the most commonly used functions of the Laboratory Information System.
- Prepare and maintain analytical equipment in proper operating condition in accordance with specific policies and procedures.
- Follow laboratory guidelines when test systems are not within acceptable limits.
- Assist supervisor in developing, implementing, and evaluating new techniques, methods, or procedures.
- Assume a technical supervisory role in the absence of the Department Supervisor (MT only).
- Provide technical support to the clinical MTs, MLTs, or CLSs through the management of the clinical laboratory analyzers/instruments.
- Review pending reports.
- Maintain responsibility for the critical call list.
- Monitor and order supplies.
- Arrange coverage for breaks and meals, and enter schedules in Kronos.
- Orient and train new team members.
- Lead monthly huddles.
- Fill in for the Laboratory Supervisor as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree or categorical experience and certification.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
- Medical Technologist (MT, ASCP), Medical Lab Scientist (MLS, ASCP), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS, ASCP).
- 1+ year laboratory experience.
Washington Residents Only: The hourly range for Washington residents is $28.03 to $54.95 per hour.
