Position SummaryCamano Island Fire & Rescue (CIFR) is seeking motivated, service-oriented Firefighter/EMTs and Firefighter/Paramedics to join our team. Members respond to a wide range of emergency incidents, including advanced life support (ALS) and basic life support (BLS) medical emergencies, fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous materials incidents, and public service calls. In addition to emergency response duties, personnel participate in fire prevention activities, training, pre-incident planning, facility inspections, equipment maintenance, and community risk reduction efforts.
Firefighters operate under the supervision of Battalion Chiefs, Company Officers, and the Medical Services Officer while working alongside a dedicated team committed to protecting life, property, and quality of life on Camano Island.
Camano Island Fire & Rescue is committed to developing the next generation of Firefighter/Paramedics. Firefighter/EMTs hired through this recruitment will have the opportunity to compete for District-sponsored attendance at the Harborview Medical Center Medic One Paramedic Training Program beginning in Summer 2027. This provides a clear pathway for career advancement into a Firefighter/Paramedic role while serving within one of the nation’s most respected EMS systems.
Examplesof Duties
- Respond to emergency incidents including fire suppression, medical emergencies, rescue operations, hazardous materials incidents, and public service requests
- Safely operate and drive fire apparatus, ambulances, and support vehicles
- Perform emergency medical care within the scope of certification
- Provide ALS care including patient assessment, medication administration, airway management, cardiac monitoring, and transport decision-making
- Participate in fire suppression, rescue, ventilation, overhaul, and salvage operations
- Participate in hazardous materials response at the Operations and Awareness levels
- Participate in training, drills, continuing education, and certification maintenance requirements
- Assist with fire prevention, inspections, public education, pre-incident planning, and hydrant maintenance
- Maintain apparatus, equipment, tools, facilities, and supplies
- Complete reports and required documentation accurately and timely
- Support the development and mentorship of fellow personnel
- Perform collateral duties and special projects as assigned
- Minimum one (1) year of career fire service experience
- Current Washington State EMT Certification or National Registry EMT
- Firefighter I Certification
- Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver License

- Knowledge of fire suppression, rescue operations, EMS, and hazardous materials response

Firefighter/EMT – $86,538.96 – $ annually
Firefighter/Paramedic – $99,519.72 – $ annually
Salary placement and rank are determined based on qualifications and experience.
