Prior Authorization Specialist
Location: Wallingford, CT (On-site)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Employment Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire
Position OverviewA leading cardiology practice in Connecticut is seeking a Prior Authorization Specialist to join its Wallingford office. This individual will play a key role in supporting patient care by obtaining timely insurance approvals for cardiology procedures, imaging services, and medications while ensuring a seamless experience for patients and providers.
Key Responsibilities- Submit, track, and follow up on prior authorization requests for procedures, diagnostic testing, imaging, and medications.
- Verify insurance benefits and coverage requirements.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and resolve authorization-related issues.
- Communicate with insurance carriers, patients, providers, and clinical staff regarding authorization status.
- Document all authorization activity accurately within the EMR system.
- Follow up on pending requests, denials, and appeals to minimize delays in patient care.
- Maintain current knowledge of payer guidelines and cardiology-specific authorization requirements.
- Assist with patient scheduling, registration, and other front-office support functions as needed.
- 1-3 years of prior authorization, medical office, patient access, or healthcare administrative experience.
- Experience with insurance verification and prior authorizations.
- Knowledge of Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office.
- Cardiology experience.
- Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding.
- Experience with Epic EMR.
- Background supporting imaging or MRI authorizations.
- Medical scheduling or patient registration experience.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wallingford, CT.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
