Patient Care Attendant (PCA)

Job Summary

A male Patient Care Attendant (PCA) is required to provide non-medical-personal care services to the client in their home. They will assist with activities of daily living, promote and encourage client independence to a certain extent, ensure a safe environment and provide companionship. The job does not involve medication administration/reminders or taking vital signs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist client with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and personal hygiene.
  • Assist with mobility, ambulation, transfers, and positioning as needed.
  • It's an assisted living set up, so the PCA will not prepare meals (the kitchen handles that).
  • Perform light housekeeping duties which includes laundry, dishwashing, changing linens, and maintaining a clean-living environment.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Follow all agency policies, safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Current Patient Care Attendant (PCA) Certificate required.

Experience

  • Previous experience providing personal care services to individuals with limited mobilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, and client-focused care.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to follow care plans and supervisor instructions.
  • Knowledge of personal care, safety, and infection control practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift as necessary to assist clients safely.
  • Ability to perform personal care and household support tasks.

Work Environment

  • Client's home.

The Patient Care Attendant is responsible for promoting the dignity, comfort, safety, and independence of clients while providing high-quality personal care and support services.
