SMX is seeking a Mid‑Level Cloud Architect to support a federal law enforcement HR data analytics program. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure cloud‑based solutions that enable data analytics, reporting, and application modernization. The ideal candidate has strong AWS experience and a proven background delivering cloud solutions in secure environments. This is a full‑time position requiring on‑site work four days per week at a client location in Washington, D.C.
An active Top Secret clearance is mandatory and the position requires four days a week on site at the customer location in Washington, DC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Support cloud architecture design and implementation across AWS environments.
- Provision, configure, and optimize cloud infrastructure and services.
- Manage cloud services including compute, storage, networking, and IAM.
- Partner with data engineers and developers to support data pipelines, analytics platforms, and applications.
- Support cloud migration and modernization efforts, including scalable and container‑based deployments.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot cloud and infrastructure issues.
- Develop and maintain architecture documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures.
- Support logging, monitoring, and security best practices within the cloud environment.
- Contribute to ATO and compliance‑related activities as needed.
- Work within Agile teams to deliver solutions aligned with mission priorities.
- Active Top Secret (TS) clearance.
- 7+ years of hands‑on experience in cloud engineering, cloud architecture, or cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
- Demonstrated experience designing and supporting cloud‑based systems in production environments.
- Experience with AWS core services (EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, etc.).
- Experience with cloud networking, security, and monitoring best practices.
- Familiarity with tools such as Cloud Watch, Splunk, or similar platforms.
- Ability to troubleshoot across cloud, infrastructure, and application layers.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross‑functional teams.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- AWS certification (Solutions Architect, Sys Ops, Developer, etc.).
- Experience supporting federal government IT systems or contracts.
- Exposure to data platforms, data warehousing, or BI tools (Strategy, Thought Spot, Tableau, Power BI).
- Experience with SQL, Python, or AWS data services (e.g., Redshift).
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, EKS, containers, or cloud‑native architectures.
- Experience supporting ATO processes or compliance documentation.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Cloud Formation).
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
