Associate Dean of Applied Sciences & Advanced Manufacturing

The Associate Dean of Applied Sciences & Advanced Manufacturing leads the planning, development, and management of the College's professional technical programs in the Applied Sciences and Advanced Manufacturing Area of Study, which includes programs in advanced manufacturing, engineering, computer science, information technology, and welding & fabrication. This role ensures the programs are delivered with a focus on equity-minded student success and aligns with college-wide goals and strategic planning efforts.

Salary: $100,000 to $105,000 annually

Workload: 100% full-time

Schedule:

Weekdays, day shift, with occasional evenings/weekends

Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Oversee the assigned applied science and advanced manufacturing academic programs, ensuring alignment with industry standards, student success goals, and equity-focused initiatives.
  • Manage disputes, complaints, and concerns between instructors and students, including allegations of cheating, plagiarism, grade disputes, and other ethical or academic issues, ensuring fair resolution in accordance with college policies and procedures.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance effectiveness and efficiency of instructional programming through data-informed decision-making, focusing on closing equity gaps and improving student outcomes.
  • Support faculty led learning outcomes assessment processes, including program review, annual core learning outcomes assessment and documentation of student learning outcomes
  • Build and maintain partnerships with regional employers, and ensure regular consultation with advisory boards and Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) as required by law, to align program development with industry needs.
  • Ensure program compliance with accreditation bodies, industry standards, and state regulations.

Faculty Supervision and Development

  • Manage faculty workloads, including assigning quarterly instructional assignments consistent with the applicable collective bargaining agreement(s).
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and professional development of faculty to enhance the quality of instruction and student engagement.
  • Conduct evaluations of faculty performance, including teaching, advising, and administrative duties, following collective bargaining agreements.
  • Support faculty through professional development opportunities and mentoring programs, with a focus on equity, inclusion, and anti-racist practices.
  • Serve as an administrative representative on faculty committees, such as Appointment Review Committees, and assist associate faculty with professional growth.

Budget & Operations Management

  • Develop, monitor, and manage the budgets for applied sciences and advanced manufacturing academic programs, ensuring fiscal sustainability and alignment with the college's strategic plan.
  • Oversee the allocation of resources, including faculty stipends, reassigned time, and program-related expenses, ensuring accountability and transparency in budgeting.
  • Collaborate with other College departments to build student-centered course schedule

Personnel & Operations Management

  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff, including administrative, professional, and support staff.
  • Make recommendations regarding hiring, termination, and professional development.
  • Develop and implement annual operational plans for assigned units and programs.
  • Ensure staff adherence to college policies and regulatory requirements.

General Duties

  • Support the department, division, and campus by promoting a collaborative work environment and participating in cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Serves on and leads College committees as designated by the Executive Dean, Vice President or President; acts as the College's liaison to external agencies and organizations (e.g. State Board for Community and Technical Colleges).
  • Leads, participates in, or coordinates projects, committees or task forces as assigned by the Executive Dean, Vice President, or President.
  • Discharges other administrative assignments, as directed by the Executive Dean, Vice President, or President.
