Job Summary

Everett Ship Repair LLC (ESR) is a Pacific Northwest Premier Ship Repair Facility located in Everett, WA. ESR offers repair, maintenance, and conversion services for commercial vessels and is expanding its workforce to include experienced tradesmen.

Responsibilities
  • Install and align major equipment and propulsion systems including main engines, gear boxes, pumps, shafts, jet drives, propellers, rudders, and Z‑drive systems.
  • Form, fit, and fabricate structural machinery foundations to blueprints using steel or aluminum, and perform layout, MIG and Arc welding and tacking of components.
  • Align and lock down main engines and gear boxes during sea trials.
  • Lay out, cut, form, machine, and prepare all work assignments for final assembly.
  • Operate a variety of mounted and hand power tools, including lathe, milling machine, grinder, drills, dial calipers, torque wrenches, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Test and inspect machine parts and equipment to ensure tolerances meet owner specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Use standard and metric measurements and conversions.
  • Operate metal forming equipment such as shear, break, roll, press, and band saw.
  • Work with Oxygen Propane torches and Plasma cutters.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and follow all safety policies and regulations.
  • Work independently or as part of a team, using adaptability and problem solving to complete tasks.
  • Express ideas clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
  • Occasionally provide relief for Inside Machinist, performing custom component fabrication with lathes, mills, drilling, and molding operations.
  • Adhere to safe work practices, housekeeping procedures, and the NBB safety culture.
  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with crew members and supervisors.
  • Share knowledge with employees, especially those in learning or apprentice roles.
  • Perform other tasks as needed within the dynamic work environment.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Machinery Assembler or Machinist (Journeyman).
  • High School Education or equivalent or vocational education.
  • Knowledge of shipyard safety practices and vessel terminology.
  • Ability to read, interpret specifications, and work from drawings and blueprints.
  • Basic math skills and proficiency in converting from SAE to metric and from fractions to decimals.
  • Experience with hand and power tools, lathe, and milling machines.
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights of 60 ft.
  • Experience operating within confined spaces while wearing a respirator, and working in small work spaces at odd angles.
Additional Distinguishing Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a shipyard (new construction or repair) or marine construction environment.
  • Experience and proficiency with laser alignment (e.g., Rotoline, Pinpoint).
  • Certification as a Shipyard Competent Person.
  • Experience and proficiency working with multiple alloys/materials such as steel and aluminum.
  • Knowledge of applicable NAVSEA standard items.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Certification and experience in use of forklifts and manlifts.
  • Interest and aptitude for future crew leadership roles.
