Description
To provide mental health care services to patients incarcerated in the Snohomish County Jail.
EssentialJob Duties
- Provides comprehensive mental health care services with responsibility for examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients, within scope of licensing and qualifications; develops health care plan according to established standards of care in a correctional setting.
- Provides treatment and advice to patients as may be indicated; prescribes medications, secures case history and related pertinent information; examines patients, utilizes laboratory and other diagnostic tests, interpreting findings for diagnosis; diagnoses ailment(s) and provides necessary treatment and follow-up treatment as may be indicated and within scope of qualifications license; consults with jail mental health professionals (MHP’s) and community providers as needed.
- Refers patients with serious medical conditions to ARNP (Adult Medicine) if indicated or refers serious mental conditions to the mental health professional staff if indicated.
- Maintains clinical records on all patients seen in a manner consistent with confidentiality of health care records guidelines and department regulations protocol.
Job Duties
- Conducts face to face assessments with inmates in both the medical clinic and on the inmate housing units when indicated.
- Consults with the Health Services Administrator or Registered Nurse Supervisor, Lead Mental Health Professional, families, contract Medical Professionals, staff and other outside providers as may be necessary.
- Provides instruction, guidance or in‑service training to mental health, medical, and detention staff as appropriate.
- Develops and updates standing orders; participates in the development of mental health protocols.
- Reviews all suicide attempts; conducts face to face assessments.
- Participates in developing and determining the standards of care and goals of the Mental Health Services as well as the development and implementation of a quality assurance program as needed.
- Participates in a shared on‑call system with other providers as scheduled.
- Participates in management/departmental meetings as requested.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) (Psychiatric) must have completed a formal nurse practitioner program and be certified for advanced practice in the State of Washington; AND, a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN), preferably psychiatric; AND a Master’s degree in nursing or related health care field. Current Washington Psychiatric ARNP licensure with prescriptive authority required. Prefer one (1) year of experience in a mental health setting, with demonstrated ability to relate effectively with people of varied backgrounds.
Past experience in correctional health care preferred. Must be a United States citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or a deferred action for childhood arrival (DACA) recipient as per RCW 41.14.100. Must pass job‑related tests.
Candidates must successfully pass a criminal history background investigation, a polygraph examination, a psychological evaluation, and pre‑employment drug screening. Candidates must be at least 21 years old at the time of application, no maximum age. As a condition of continued employment must maintain certification and license as required by applicable statutes.
