Job Description

We are seeking qualified nurses for day-to-day substituting. The
2024-25 daily rate of pay for substitute nurses is $200 for a full-day and early release day; $100 for a half-day; $250 for Fridays marked as Learning Improvement Time (LIT).

JOB TITLE
: SCHOOL NURSE

JOB SUMMARY: Provide for the health, wellness and safety of students through: health education, direct service to students, staff and student trainings, and collaboration with student families, Public Health, school staff, and medical/dental/community resources and liaisons.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Identify students having acute and chronic health conditions that affect educational performance.
  • Provide nursing assessments for students being evaluated for possible Special Education placement.
  • Provide individual health care plans and/or 504 plans for students as needed with chronic and acute health conditions and disabilities and student needing treatments and medications.
  • Facilitate home/hospital process for students unable to attend school for health reasons.
  • Provide health education and guidance for students, parents and school staff to promote wellness.
  • Serve as liaison between health care providers and the school staff by evaluating and interpreting health information and by making appropriate referrals for health care, vision, and dental care.
  • Serve as liaison between the schools and the State/County Health Departments for the control of communicable diseases within the school setting.
  • Plan and assist in the implementation of activities including but not limited to vision screenings.
  • Establish procedures, supervise, provide training and assist implementation of the following: immunization compliance, medication administration, medical and/or nursing treatments, health room care of sick and injured students, field trip preparation (including staff medication training) and clothing and medical assist programs.
  • Gather data and make referrals to Children’s Protective Services as necessary.
  • Act as consultant, resource and teacher of health education and current health information.
  • Provide annual staff training including but not limited to Infection Control and Blood Borne Pathogens, medical confidentiality and use of Special Needs Consent forms, medication administration, asthma, anaphylaxis, and diabetes.
  • Assist in the development of procedures and forms for Mukilteo School Health Services.
  • Participate in Crisis Team/Disaster planning team at the building level.
  • Train and supervise health room para educators.
  • Participate in identifying and reporting current or potential environmental health and safety hazards for students and staff.
  • Order and maintain adequate health room supplies.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement, and meeting special education laws and policies.
  • Participate in and facilitate various meetings for the purpose of addressing student goals and needs, and to meet laws and policies. Meetings may include school and department, manifestation determination, eligibility, evaluation and placement.
  • Maintain and process accurate records/documents as required by State and Federal regulations and district policy.
  • Direct the work of assigned classified staff.
  • Implement and comply with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.
  • Fulfill other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
