South Beach Area State Parks – Twin Harbors State Park, Westport, WA (includes Twin Harbors, Grayland Beach, Westport Light, Bottle Beach).
Position SummaryThis permanent, full‑time, year‑round position is based at Twin Harbors State Park. Dedicated housing is available. The Park Ranger 3 leads routine operations within the South Beach Area, serves as the primary team leader for implementing the area management plan, and acts as the expert‑level Law Enforcement Officer. This position is not eligible for telework.
About the ParkTwin Harbors State Park offers beach goers a sanctuary with sandy trails leading to the main beach. Visitors enjoy kite flying, surfing, kayaking, fishing, clamming (open season), and relaxing by the ocean. The park provides hiker/biker trails, standard and full‑hookup camping sites, heated yurts, rustic cabins for rent, a seasonal Welcome Center, and a park store.
HousingPark housing is available at a subsidized cost in a 3‑bedroom, 2‑bath home with new laminate flooring, detached 2‑car garage, and a large cedar‑fenced backyard. Coastal living is just a half‑mile walk to the beach.
Responsibilities- Operations Management
- Assess operational needs of the park area and raise issues with the Area Manager.
- Develop logistical plans for park projects and provide prioritized documentation.
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations and develop staff schedules.
- Prepare for emergency management, ensuring all plans are up‑to‑date.
- Develop and manage special projects with work groups, weed boards, wildlife departments, and other outside entities.
- Lead Law Enforcement Ranger
- Maintain expertise in rules and regulations required for law enforcement duties.
- Schedule appropriate law enforcement coverage based on park needs.
- Maintenance Functions
- Assign, schedule, and complete lower‑level maintenance projects.
- Ensure all safety requirements are met on job sites.
- Maintain park tools and equipment.
- Staff and Volunteer Supervision
- Provide oversight and instruction to staff.
- Ensure staff meet training requirements and complete PDPs annually.
- Hold staff accountable for meeting expectations and raise significant issues with the Area Manager.
- Coordinate personnel matters with the Area Manager.
- Supervise work groups and volunteers.
- Leadership
- Create an environment of collaborative teamwork and respect for all employees.
- Communicate proactively and positively with staff.
- Area Representation
- Two (2) years as a fully commissioned Washington State Park Ranger.
- OR two (2) years as a Park Ranger, commissioned Law Enforcement Officer, or equivalent in a Natural Resource field AND a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience substituting education one year for one year).
- Having successfully completed a qualifying law enforcement academy (BLEA, POST, PLEA, or SLETP).
- Supervisory experience.
- Project planning experience.
- Completion of trail maintenance classes.
- WA State Certified Pesticide Applicator’s License.

Successful external applicants must pass a background investigation, drug and alcohol screening, medical/psychological/polygraph examination, and a physical ability test. Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification.
