Location: Camano Island, WA

Compensation: $4,406 - $5,928 monthly

Position Status: Full‑time permanent position. Housing is not available for this position.

Join the Salish Foothills team as a Park Ranger 1 where you preserve and enhance our state parks and natural resources. This recruitment will fill one full‑time permanent Park Ranger 1 position at Camano Island State Park.

Park Features

Camano Island State Park offers camping, hiking, water activities, and interpretive programs. It includes forested trails, rocky shoreline, and scenic views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and Mount Rainier.

Responsibilities
  • Perform duties defined by the Program Manager and Area Manager, including day‑to‑day customer service and rule compliance support.
  • Assist area staff and maintain consistently high standards for cleanliness and sanitation of restrooms and grounds.
  • Educate park visitors on rules and regulations, including Discover Pass enforcement.
  • Provide routine maintenance and stewardship functions: supervise lower‑level projects, complete maintenance schedules, and inspect projects for compliance with standards.
  • Clean restrooms and other park facilities.
  • Provide registration and customer service functions, directing public contact and providing general information and emergency assistance.
  • Complete administrative duties: new employee hiring paperwork, Cash Receipt Transmittals (CRTs), and other required forms.
  • Supervise lower‑level staff, volunteers, and work groups; follow Agency policies, statewide rules, regulations, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Ensure safety and welfare of park visitors, protecting and enhancing park resources.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • United States citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • Valid driver’s license (unrestricted, other than corrective lenses).
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Two (2) years of college (60 semester or 90 quarter credits), military experience, commissioned law enforcement experience, natural resource, or recreation field experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience performing minor construction and repair work.
  • Grounds maintenance experience such as cutting grass, weeding, pruning, raking leaves, and collecting litter.
  • Supervisory experience.

Work Conditions and Requirements
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform arduous manual tasks over extended periods.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, long or irregular hours.
  • Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Driving record must indicate compliance with rules and regulations; driving under the influence or reckless driving will be disqualified.
Training
  • Mandatory one‑week training including defensive tactics, basic first aid, CPR with AED, radio communications, legal updates, and role‑specific duties.

  • Supervision of non‑permanent employees and volunteers.
  • Discover Pass enforcement and issuance of infractions.
