Position Overview

As a Veterinary Assistant, you support veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks: cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work. You deliver quality care for all patients and provide exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate care to all patients
  • Greet patients and their owners upon arrival; take the patient’s weight and vitals
  • Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs)
  • Calm and soothe anxious patients
  • Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint
  • Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
  • Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors, etc.)
  • Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications; maintain proper documentation and security of controlled drugs
  • Feed patients as prescribed; record appetites; recognize and report abnormal behaviors
  • Communicate positively with clients, ensuring they feel comfortable leaving their pet(s)
  • Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans
  • Maintain cleanliness of the hospital daily: clean equipment, kennels, facilities with chemicals; complete laundry
  • Bath and care for patients staying overnight; ensure every animal released is clean and groomed
  • Adhere to safety and wellness regulations
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Maintain accurate medical records
  • Punctual appearance for work; full-time presence for each shift
  • Promote hospital products and services and support the organization
  • Respond respectfully with urgency to directions from DVM or LVT
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager; may include specialty area tasks (dentistry, surgery, emergency, radiology, cardiology, neurology, internal medicine, etc.)

Qualifications (Required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of experience in a veterinary environment, successfully performing all duties of this position

Schedule:

Days and hours may vary. Monday – Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM.

Pay Range: $21 – $23.50 USD.
