Responsibilities
  • Sample and test Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) by collecting materials from production or job sites and performing required volumetric tests, including laboratory compaction and maximum specific gravity.
  • Verify Job Mix Formula (JMF) compliance through continuous monitoring of asphalt binder content and aggregate gradation to ensure all materials stay within specified tolerances.
  • Perform daily aggregate sampling and testing at various production stages according to established schedules, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Maintain testing equipment by cleaning, calibrating, and ensuring all tools remain in proper working condition to support accurate and reliable results.
  • Document and communicate results by reporting findings to operators and the mine manager throughout the day, preparing end-of‑day reports for the Quality team, and collaborating with production personnel to identify and resolve quality issues.
Qualifications
  • Flexibility and the ability to work safely, independently, and with integrity without constant supervision.
  • Strong problem‑solving and math skills with competency in computer applications and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Effective communication skills, ability to follow directions, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn through on‑the‑job training, video, and reading materials, and work cooperatively as part of a production team.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; post‑secondary education, ACI certification, and experience in quality control, manufacturing, or production an asset; some mechanical experience is a plus.
Employment Conditions
  • Successful candidate must submit to post‑offer pre‑employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check; some positions require FMCSA regulated ongoing drug and alcohol testing.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older; verification of age will be required as a condition of employment.
  • Work Environment:
    Primary duties in environments with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity, and elevated noise levels; must be in good physical condition and capable of climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, lifting (up to 75 lbs.), sitting and standing for extended periods, kneeling, climbing ladders, and walking on varied terrain.
