Job Overview
An Aerospace PT Inspector (Liquid Penetrant) conducts non-destructive testing (NDT) to identify surface and near-surface defects in aircraft components, ensuring compliance with strict safety regulations (FAA, NADCAP). Key duties include interpreting test results, documenting non-conformances, calibrating equipment, and reading blueprints for quality assurance.
Core Responsibilities
- NDT Testing:
Perform fluorescent/visible liquid penetrant (PT) to detect cracks, porosity, or inclusions on metallic/non-metallic parts. - Documentation & Compliance:
Review, document, and interpret inspection results according to engineering specs and industry standards. - Dimensional/Visual Inspection:
Use calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify part dimensions and structural integrity. - Equipment Maintenance:
Calibrate and maintain PT equipment, tanks, and materials (developers, penetrants). - Non-Conformance Reporting:
Document and report any defects found during inspection.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certification: NDT Level II certification in PT (often per NAS
410 or ASNT standards). - Experience:
Previous experience in aerospace manufacturing or MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) environments. - Technical
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings. - Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in confined spaces, handle materials, and meet visual acuity standards. Ability to lift up to 50lbs
