The Commercial Real Estate Appraiser Trainee is a full-time, on-site role based in Elkridge, Howard County, MD. The trainee will assist senior appraisers with data collection, market research, and analysis for a variety of commercial real estate properties, including income-producing and mixed-use assets. Daily responsibilities include inspecting properties under supervision, gathering and verifying comparable sales and rental data, preparing preliminary valuation models, and drafting sections of appraisal reports in accordance with firm standards and regulatory requirements.
The role also involves maintaining organized work files, supporting portfolio valuation and consulting assignments, and collaborating with team members to meet project timelines and client expectations. As skills develop, the trainee will progressively take on more complex assignments and responsibilities under the guidance of experienced professionals. - Candidates should possess a strong interest in developing professional appraisal expertise.
- Candidates should possess strong analytical, mathematical, and critical-thinking abilities, with proficiency in Excel spreadsheet and Word-processing software.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and well-organized reports and correspondence.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and respect for confidentiality, with the ability to follow standards such as USPAP (or willingness to learn them).
- Ability to work on-site in Elkridge, MD, manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and collaborate constructively in a team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in real estate, finance, economics, business, or a related field is preferred; prior internship or coursework in appraisal or commercial real estate is a plus.
- Willingness to pursue relevant professional training and licensing.
