Solid Waste Technician - Clerk Hire
The Public Works Department’s Solid Waste Division is seeking a customer service‑oriented individual to join the Transfer Station team in Port Townsend. The Solid Waste Technician - Clerk Hire is responsible for assisting customers in the Scale House, processing transactions, and directing traffic on the tipping floor to support safe and efficient operations.
This is a Clerk Hire position working a maximum of 69 hours per month.
Minimum Qualifications- Responsible for safely and efficiently assisting with solid waste collection operations at a County transfer station or drop box site.
- Handling customer transactions, inspecting incoming waste for unacceptable materials, directing vehicles during unloading, maintaining clean and organized facilities, supporting administrative tasks, and providing courteous assistance to the public.
- Strong customer service skills, attention to safety procedures, and the ability to work in an active outdoor environment.
High School Diploma or GED and valid WA State Driver’s License.
CompensationPart‑time Clerk Hire position, up to 69 hours per month. $21.00 per hour. No benefits except sick leave. Earns one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked.
WorkweekFacility operates Monday – Saturday. Flexible scheduling may be provided depending on operational needs.
