Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Construction & Maintenance Lead, Supervisor, or Park Manager, this role performs advanced-skilled work in various trades, accomplishing routine, planned, and emergency maintenance, construction, repair, and equipment operation across Mount Spokane State Park and Riverside & Crawford State Parks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform journey-level work in construction, maintenance, repair, preventive and deferred maintenance projects.
  • Operate and repair equipment; carpentry, masonry, roofing, plumbing, electrical trades.
  • Maintain, construct, and remodel buildings, trail infrastructure, and other facilities.
  • Respond to and repair maintenance-related emergencies.
  • Maintain and repair light and heavy equipment; inspect, diagnose, and make needed repairs on vehicles and industrial/commercial equipment.
  • Operate heavy equipment, handle transportation, maintenance, repair, and staff training in equipment safety and use.
  • Purchase materials according to purchasing regulations.
  • Prepare cost estimates for vehicle/equipment construction, alteration, installation, repair, and maintenance projects.
  • Maintain shop records and inventory; keep updated electronic communication and online work schedule.
Required Qualifications
  • Option 1:
    Four (4) years advanced-level experience in two (2) or more construction/building trades, high school graduation or GED, valid unrestricted driver’s license, Class A CDL with medical certification (obtain within 12 months), and first aid/CPR certification (obtain within 24 months).
  • Option 2:
    Two (2) years as a Maintenance Mechanic 1, high school graduation or GED, valid unrestricted driver’s license, Class A CDL with medical certification (obtain within 12 months), and first aid/CPR certification (obtain within 24 months).
  • Option 3:
    Combination of up to two (2) years of technical/vocational training in a building/construction trade plus advanced-level experience in two (2) or more trades totaling at least four (4) years, plus high school graduation or GED, valid unrestricted driver’s license, Class A CDL with medical certification (obtain within 12 months), and first aid/CPR certification (obtain within 24 months).

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Washington State Parks or similar entity.
  • Advanced experience driving and operating light to heavy duty equipment.
  • Advanced experience repairing light to heavy duty vehicles and construction equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of hand & power tools.
  • Intermediate technical knowledge in construction, installation, and problem-solving for agency facilities.
  • Beginner skills with Microsoft Office products.
  • Beginner project management skills.
  • Experience organizing work projects with time management, multi‑tasking, and communication.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations governing safety, repairs, and maintenance.
