Test Technician (Tech II / Tech III)
This role supports an FAA Repair Station within a manufacturing facility that produces advanced audio and communications equipment for commercial aircraft and other aerospace applications. As a Test Technician, you will perform overhaul, repair, testing, and return-to-service inspections on products ranging from fully digital flight deck audio systems to passenger address and cabin interphone systems. Two levels are available, Tech II and Tech III, based on experience and training.
Responsibilities
- Set up test fixtures in accordance with established procedures and work instructions.
- Test, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of electronic sub-assemblies, assemblies, and units of moderate complexity.
- Operate a wide variety of electronic test equipment to diagnose and verify performance of products.
- Troubleshoot down to the board level to identify faults and implement effective repairs.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, engineering change orders, and customer service repair instructions to guide repair and test activities.
- Use circuit schematics and other technical documentation to support accurate troubleshooting and repair.
- Perform soldering and rework on electronic components and assemblies as required.
- Provide informal suggestions to engineers regarding potential mechanical or electrical design changes to improve product performance, reliability, or serviceability.
- Repair customer units in the field as necessary, supporting on-site service needs when required.
- Complete all required documentation accurately to support return-to-service inspections and regulatory compliance.
- Follow established procedures and quality standards in an FAA Repair Station environment.
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other team members to resolve complex technical issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure test equipment is properly used and maintained.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of experience working with complex electronic test equipment in a troubleshooting and repair environment for Tech II roles.
- 5+ years of experience working with complex electronic test equipment in a troubleshooting and repair environment for Tech III roles.
- Ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment down to the board level.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, engineering change orders, and customer service repair instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret circuit schematics for both digital and analog circuits.
- Hands-on experience using a wide variety of electronic test equipment in a repair and test environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and repair skills for electronic assemblies and sub-assemblies.
- Competence in soldering and working with electronic components and circuitry.
- Military or trade school training in electronics, including digital and analog theory and solid-state circuitry, required for Tech III roles.
- Ability to work effectively in a structured, procedure-driven FAA Repair Station environment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests, repairs, and documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with avionics, audio systems, or aerospace-related electronic equipment.
- Familiarity with overhaul and return-to-service processes for regulated electronic products.
- Comfort providing feedback and informal suggestions to engineering teams regarding design improvements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders.
- Experience working on second shift or in a manufacturing environment.
