Job Opportunity:
Juvenile Probation Counselor

Jefferson County is seeking a Juvenile Probation Counselor. Responsibilities include supervision, counseling and case management for dual caseloads of juvenile offenders and non-offender referrals. This position may serve in early intervention programs such as diversion or non-offender programs such as at-risk youth, child in need of services and truancy matters. All juvenile court staff may participate in various Juvenile Court functions and comply with quality assurance programs.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, counsel and manage cases for juvenile offenders and non-offender referrals, including dual caseloads.
  • Perform risk and needs assessments and create case management plans identifying target behaviors and interventions for referral purposes.
  • Provide 24/7 detention screening and make recommendations to the court, including pre-sentence investigation reports.
  • Participate in early intervention programs (diversion) or non-offender programs (at-risk youth, child in need of services, truancy).
  • Participate in Juvenile Court functions including therapeutic courts, evidence-based programs, community service, field visits, community team efforts, victim-offender mediation, detention services, early intervention programs, community truancy boards, and comply with quality assurance programs.
Qualifications
  • Ability to perform essential duties; the requirements are listed in the attached job description and reflect necessary knowledge, skill and ability.
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university with major coursework in psychology, sociology, counseling, social work, law and justice, or related field; and one year related experience and/or training in case management, youth counseling, social work, trauma-informed services, supervising or directing youth group activities; OR equivalent combination of education and experience; OR in process of completing education and equivalent combination of experience.
Compensation

This full-time position (40 hours per week) includes benefits provided in accordance with UFCW contract provisions and retirement benefits. This is a union position with full benefits including dental and vision. Retirement provided through Washington State DRS. 12 days of vacation to start, PTO, and bereavement leave. Grade 31 range $32.98-$40.57 per hour DOQ. Starting pay typically $32.98.
