Position: Thurston County 4-H Program Coordinator

Job Title: Thurston County 4-H Program Coordinator (Extension Coordinator)

Overview

As the Thurston County 4-H Program Coordinator, you provide oversight, leadership, recruitment and volunteer management for Washington State University (WSU) Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program of Thurston County. You are responsible for outreach and coordinating education efforts serving 4-H youth and volunteers, and for developing and implementing programs and activities within WSU Extension policies and procedures.

Position Details

• Part‑time (75% FTE), temporary – expected to end 1 year from hire date and subject to renewal based on funding.

• Overtime eligible.

Salary: Monthly range of $2,925.66 – $4,210.10 at 75% FTE ($3,900.88 – $5,613.47 at 100% FTE). Salary reflects full range for this position. Individual placement is based on experience, education, and skills.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and at least two (2) years of related program experience.
  • Relevant disciplines include social sciences, education, human development, and administration.
  • Experience recruiting and managing volunteers.
  • Knowledge of or experience with 4‑H youth development programs.
  • Experience working/collaborating with public agencies and individuals in partnerships.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet SPPM 7.10 and department driving standards.
  • Successful completion of WSU background screening and 4‑H Youth Development/Child Protection screening.
  • Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and occasional overnight travel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.

  • Independent and team-oriented work style.
  • Professional discretion in resolving programmatic conflicts.
  • Strong written communication skills for reports, evaluations, press releases, and public outreach.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills for public speaking and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in program assessment and evaluation.
  • Adaptability to fast‑paced and creative environments.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse populations across rural, suburban, and urban settings.
  • First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification.
