A Mobile Diesel Technician Level II at Fleet Services will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Mobile Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Diesel Technician II continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
A successful Diesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high-level performance metrics.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various types of truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate solutions using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory on company-issued service truck and reconcile periodically.
- Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Serve clients and customers, assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work, upload photos, and record parts used on Repair Orders using company-issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
- Manage daily schedule independently and maintain productivity.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support via email or phone for approvals and discussion.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- High School diploma or GED and 3 years of experience in a related field, or a higher degree or certification combined with at least 5 years of related experience.
- Possess and provide a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Follow regulations issued by the Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
- Pass DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Submit current valid DOT medical card if more than 4 months remains; otherwise complete DOT physical.
- Be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driver qualification file.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship; no OPT, CPT, STEM-OPT or visa sponsorship is accepted.

Hourly base pay ranges from $29.42 to $44.13. The rate may vary based on location and qualifications. Position may be eligible for commission and incentive programs. New Hire Bonus is $2,500, paid 50 percent after 30 days and 50 percent after 180 days.
