The Department of Corrections (DOC) has one permanent, full time Corrections and Custody Officer 2 (CO2) - Transport opening available and one non-permanent, full time Corrections and Custody Officer 2 (CO2) - Transport opening available in the Transportation Unit. These positions are located in Everett, WA. These openings are only available to current DOC employees.
The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Work hours are determined by unit needs and are at the discretion of the unit supervisor. This position contributes to the Department of Corrections (DOC) mission to improve public safety by securely, safely, and humanely transporting incarcerated and/or supervised male and female individuals to and from prison facilities, work release facilities, field offices, jails, and other secure holding facilities (including out-of-state locations) as directed by the Department and/or other criminal justice partners.
Conduct transports, monitor individuals' behavior, and assist in controlling and directing individuals (up to and including use of appropriate force options) during transportation activities.
* Transport of male and female offenders, in custody and out of custody, both restrained and unrestrained.
* Verify offender identity and destination prior to beginning transports and releases.
* Securely pat search and restrain in-custody offenders prior to transporting to secure environments (i.e. jails or prison facilities).
* Securely pat search offenders not in custody prior to transporting.
* Follow universal precautions when conducting offender searches/transports.
* Document and secure inventory of offender personal property when applicable.
* Seize dangerous items, evidence, contraband and controlled or unauthorized substances.
* Search transport vehicles for contraband prior to transporting offenders.
* Monitor offender activities and movement during entire transport process.
* Complete necessary documentation prior to, during, and after each transport.
* Monitor transport vehicles for routine maintenance needs and mechanical defects.
* Arrange and facilitate repairs with vehicle maintenance shops.
* Drive in a safe manner to and from each location obeying all traffic laws.
Apply appropriate, constructive, and professional authority.
* Effectively and professionally communicate with offenders and staff in all types of situations.
* Use appropriate de-escalation skills during stressful and potentially dangerous situations.
* Advise offenders concerning rules and regulations and provide clear direction.
* Work collaboratively with jail and prison staff.
* Follow individual facility rules and directives regarding booking/release processes.
Administrative duties
* Brief Supervisor/Duty Officer on pertinent information to make aware of current and potential situations that may require action.
* Track/log all transports of offenders per local practice.
* Write incident reports or disciplinary reports detailing individuals' behavior and violations of rules and regulations.
Other duties as assigned
Required:
* At least one (1) year experience as a DOC Corrections and Custody Officer, which included successful completion of the Correctional Officer training plan.
* Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
* Carry a firearm, Taser, OC, and other related equipment and wear a protective vest while on duty.
* This position requires the incumbent to wear a respirator. Incumbent must remain clean shaven in the area of the respirator fit and have medical clearance to wear a respirator.
* Must have and maintain firearms qualifications and use of force equipment certifications.
* Must be lawfully able to possess a firearm.
* Use control and impedance tactics as needed to control a resistive individual
