Vehicle Service Attendant (VSA) Lead

As a Vehicle Service Attendant (VSA) Lead, you oversee all vehicle service operations on the Fuel Island and bus lines in coordination with Maintenance Management. You are responsible for assigning and prioritizing VSA tasks, monitoring team activity, and ensuring all work is performed in accordance with department standards, safety expectations, and established procedures.

This position may be assigned to either the Hardeson or Kasch Park Campus and may be required to support or oversee both sites on a limited basis.

Essential Duties
  • Assign and oversee the work of Vehicle Service Attendants, ensuring that established standards, policies, and procedures for work performance, safety, and security are followed.
  • Provide technical assistance to troubleshoot problems and provide coaching for employees when needed. Conduct job-specific, hands-on training for all new Vehicle Service Attendants and perform refresher or new equipment/procedure trainings.
  • Assist with scheduling Vehicle Service Attendants to ensure all shifts meet operational needs and requirements for timely servicing of all buses and other Community Transit vehicles.
  • Maintain the quality and quantity of work. Perform periodic quality control inspections to ensure VSAs are meeting expectations and monitor the quantity of work performed by individuals. Notify management of any performance or work issues.
  • Monitor the proper functioning and reliability of all equipment used by Vehicle Service Attendants. Request required repairs and maintenance.
  • Perform other related duties, as needed. For example, record fuel, oil, and mileage usage and perform duties of a Vehicle Service Attendant.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience servicing a fleet of automotive or diesel equipment.
  • Internal Candidates:
    No documented workplace discipline in the past 3 years.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire.
  • Must possess a CDL license with a Passenger Endorsement and air brake restriction removed within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.

An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the job duties is also accepted.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Health and safety hazards related to servicing vehicles, including proper precautions and use of safety equipment.
  • Basic mechanical and servicing procedures.

  • Reading and recording fuel and oil usage and taking mileage readings.
  • Working in an environment with grease, dirt, carbon monoxide, and diesel fumes from vehicles.
  • Learning to properly inspect and service all agency vehicles.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships with coworkers, supervisors, the public, and others.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • 2 years of experience leading or managing a team is preferred but not required.

Working Conditions

Approximately 30% of your work will be performed in a maintenance shop environment and requires you to use and operate common tools, cleaning supplies, standard office equipment, and keyboards.

Approximately 70% of your work will be performed outdoors in the bus yard. You will be required to move throughout and between different maintenance shop buildings. Given the nature of this job, you may also be exposed to automotive fumes, carbon monoxide, odors, and dust and may need to…
