Non-Exempt, FT Hourly Pay Range $16.50 - $17.60

Position Summary

The Aquatics Maintenance Technician is responsible for taking care of the aquatics facility by ensuring safe water chemical levels and maintaining the integrity of pool structures and equipment. The Aquatics Maintenance Technician is also responsible for the cleanliness of the aquatic facility through the development and execution of a timely maintenance schedule and the establishment of standard operating procedures.

The Kroc Center Hawaii Aquatics Maintenance Technician will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

Required

Education and Experience
  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Must be efficient, organized, personable, poised and well groomed. Must have experience in pool, spa and/or fountain maintenance, including chemical use, chemical level testing, pump, equipment maintenance, pool plumbing and all other related items.
  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office programs such as MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Preferred Experience
  • Certified Pool Operator.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Certified Forklift Operator.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be accepted.

    Essential Functions
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain swimming pools and aquatic features.
  • Work closely with the Facilities team to diagnose, repair, and maintain water systems, filter systems and pumps.
  • Respond to Aquatic Center work orders in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner to assess and repair non-functioning machinery or equipment.
  • Ensure that pools are safe, clean, operational, and that all appropriate water, environment, health and safety standards are maintained. Ensure that all pools are compliant with applicable health codes and statutes.
  • Regularly test swimming pool water quality and pH balance. Maintain a chemical log of the water quality for records purposes.
  • Log and report equipment faults, facility needs or water quality problems to Aquatic Manager.
  • Keep pools free of debris using vacuum cleaners and telescopic pole with net to clean.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of facility shutdowns and maintenance procedures. Work collaboratively with the Aquatics Manager to develop and implement an aquatics preventative maintenance plan.
  • Establish standard operating procedures for aquatics cleaning and maintenance activities; assist in communication and training of operating procedures to staff.
  • Operate and inspect tools and equipment and make minor adjustments and repairs.
  • Fix pool lights above and below water level. Check and repair corrosion, cracks and leaks in the pool tiles, grates, and fountain features.
  • Maintain all stainless steel to ensure rusting does not occur.
  • Ensure equipment such as pool lifts, diving boards and slides are in good working condition. Maintain the pool and all water features using proper chemicals and cleaners.
  • Perform housekeeping duties in and around the Aquatic Center, i.e. scrubbing, washing, picking up litter, pest control etc.
  • Safely transport and store hazardous chemicals.
  • Maintain an equipment checkout program by performing checks before and after use for defects, repair, etc. and discard defective equipment in accordance with procedures. Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be ordered and communicates the needs to the Aquatic Manager.
  • Complete applicable reports and records.
  • Be knowledgeable for all Emergency Disaster Evacuation Plan preparedness for the aquatics area, as directed by the Aquatics Manager.
  • Assume a schedule of flexible working hours, including holidays, weekends and evenings. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
