Position Summary:
A Security Guard with The Salvation Army is charged with maintaining a safe environment for all employees, clients, and visitors to the Kroc Center Hawaii. The position provides a visual security presence to ensure members and guests have a safe and pleasant experience while visiting the Center. The guard will also monitor the facility during hours of operation as well as when closed, and will execute emergency response procedures as required.
The guard must have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army and represent the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center with professionalism in the community.
Education and Experience
- Current valid State of Hawaii Guard Card
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One to two years of work experience
- Flexible schedule, follow detailed procedures, and demonstrate good customer service skills
- Provide a visual security presence by circulating among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order, protect property, and maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
- Conduct hourly rounds to monitor facility activity; report problems to the Security Manager; check stairwells, fire exits, mechanical rooms, and fire extinguishers.
- Under the guidance of the Facilities Manager, ensure all mechanical systems are functioning properly by checking for and recording:
- Standing water and fire hazards
- Pool pump area checks (blinking lights, standing water, unusual noise)
- Mechanical room/Central Plant room checks
- When staffing the security office, monitor alarm systems, sign in and out keys and audiovisual equipment, admit staff and visitors, check in and sign out deliveries, and answer the telephone.
- Verify membership cards for admission when not conducting rounds or staffing the office.
- Be familiar with the Center's Emergency Action Plan and evacuation procedures, and conduct emergency procedures as necessary.
- Control crowds as required.
- After warning people of infractions or violations, apprehend or evict violators from premises.
- Secure the Center's entrances at the end of operating hours.
- Maintain a shift log.
- Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
- Maintain the Code of Ethics policy established for Kroc Center Hawaii.
- Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Monitor and adjust computerized lighting and timers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Prioritize and organize work assignments and complete projects from beginning to end.
- Perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.
- Work in a fast‑paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
- Be self‑motivated, energetic, enthusiastic, and maintain a self‑directed schedule.
- Have genuine interest and commitment to providing quality service.

The position requires sitting, climbing and/or balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling, standing, walking, manual dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, vision use, and operating a vehicle. The guard may need to push, pull, lift, or carry 50–75 pounds and occasionally more. Work may include weekends, holidays, and evenings, and the guard may be exposed to all types of weather.

- Security duty belt, two‑way radio/cell phone, flashlight/torch
- Fire extinguisher (on golf cart)
- Mini first aid kit
- Current valid State of Hawaii Guard Card
- Certification or ability to attain First Aid, CPR, AED, and Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) within the required time period
