The internal salary range is used for applicants who are current NJ state employees with underlying classified status for promotional calculations who meet the requirements below. The external salary range is used for candidates who are not NJ state employees who meet the requirements below.
This position will be one of the primary academic advisors for a cohort of Pathway Program students (a provisional cohort of students who are conditionally admitted to the college). The Student Support Coordinator will collaborate with other Student Support Coordinators in FY‑ASC in advising students, strengthening program initiatives and support, instructing orientation seminar courses, collaborating with FY‑ASC student mentors and staff, and supporting the overall functions of the First‑Year Advising Support Center.
The Student Support Coordinator is also responsible for supplemental advising for the campus community, workshop facilitation, and will be cross‑trained to provide support to all areas of FY‑ASC.
- Serves as a primary academic advisor for the Pathway Program student cohort.
- Advise students in a variety of majors, both one‑on‑one and group advisement, regarding fall and spring courses
- Prepare incoming fall semester schedules, work with students to find appropriate courses based on placement testing and intended major
- Facilitate advising with intended departmental programs for the spring semester
- Coordinate and instruct weekly IDS‑96 Orientation Seminar course(s)
- Provide supplemental advisement and support for Pathway students once fully matriculated
- Research and implement best practices in academic advising and student support services.
- Utilize data to support the implementation of practices
- Create and organize updated materials and resources
- Collaborate with colleagues and student workers on best practices/processes to disseminate updated information
- Assist in the preparation of reports, proposals, and learning outcomes/recommendations for the First‑Year Advising Support Center by compiling, summarizing, analyzing, and interpreting statistical program data.
- Provide support to FY‑ASC populations (for example, Undeclared‑General) as needed, while also serving as a point of contact for walk‑in students who need supplemental advising and support.
- Establish and maintain effective communication and collaborative working relationships with the College's administration, academic departments, faculty/staff, etc. to provide strong campus‑wide support for students and accomplish the goals and objectives of FY‑ASC.
Required Qualifications
- A Master's Degree in counseling, education, or a related field
- Knowledge of academic advising best practices
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse population of undergraduate students (and families)
- Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information and work within college policy
- Demonstrated ability to use technology (social media, Canvas, People Soft) to promote student support and success
- Exceptional teamwork and collaboration skills, exemplary level of professionalism
- Previous student‑facing role (2‑3 years minimum), preferably in academic advising
- Collaboration with faculty and staff
- Facilitation of workshops and/or class instruction
- Experience with student support/academic coaching, especially with students who may be at risk and/or facing academic challenges
