Overview
We are seeking a hands‑on Purchasing Manager to lead purchasing operations supporting aerospace, defense, and manufacturing programs. This role will oversee a team of 3 direct reports and manage strategic sourcing, supplier performance, inventory planning, and procurement execution in a regulated manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate combines leadership, ERP/MRP expertise, and strong supplier management capabilities with a proactive, operations‑driven mindset.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, mentor, and develop a purchasing team of 3 direct reports, driving performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Manage end‑to‑end procurement of raw materials (steel, aluminum, plastics, rubber), consumables, and MRO supplies supporting manufacturing operations.
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies that improve cost, quality, delivery, and supplier reliability.
- Manage supplier relationships including onboarding, qualification, scorecards, KPI tracking, and corrective actions.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, lead times, and supplier agreements to support operational and financial objectives.
- Drive supplier performance improvements, shortage mitigation, and recovery plans for critical production needs.
- Leverage ERP/MRP systems to analyze demand, planned orders, inventory levels, and purchasing requirements.
- Convert MRP requirements into procurement strategies and purchase orders aligned with production schedules and inventory targets.
- Review and approve RFQs, supplier selections, and purchase orders while ensuring documentation and traceability compliance.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Program Management teams to support production and new product initiatives.
- Resolve supplier quality issues and non‑conformances through root cause analysis and corrective actions (CAPA).
- Monitor open orders, supplier delivery performance, and inventory risk to support on‑time manufacturing operations.
- Develop procurement reporting, metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain organization.
- Maintain accurate supplier, pricing, and procurement data within ERP systems.
- 8+ years of purchasing, procurement, supply chain experience within aerospace, defense, or manufacturing environments.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience managing buyers, purchasing agents, or procurement teams preferred.
- Strong background in supplier management, strategic sourcing, negotiations, KPI development, and inventory planning.
- Advanced ERP/MRP experience with the ability to interpret and act on system‑driven demand.
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO standards, and traceability requirements preferred.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Bachelor's degree, Master’s degree a plus, or direct related experience.
