Position Overview

The Department of Facilities & Administrative Services at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) provides a broad array of services to the campus community. Under the direction of the Supervisor, Building Maintenance Workers Movers perform varied, routine, and moderately physically strenuous tasks involved in campus-wide department moves and special events setups. Duties include loading and unloading furniture, boxes, and other items, assembling and disassembling furniture, and interacting with campus constituents.

Responsibilities

• Conduct department moves across campus, handling furniture and related materials on and off trucks, ensuring appropriate padding and protection to prevent damage; relocate desks, chairs, tables, bookcases, artwork, refrigerators, and other office equipment; arrange and set up items for classrooms, offices, student rooms, and conference rooms as instructed; maintain proper care of equipment and supplies; assist in various maintenance activities as required;
  
  promote workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Conduct event setups and breakdowns across campus departments, including chairs, tables, equipment, boxes, furniture, and table tops; lift more than sixty pounds; remove trash and e-waste.
• Clean heavy trash and e‑waste following events in a timely and effective manner.
• Assist in other duties as assigned, such as summer residential hall cleaning and snow removal as part of the Building Service snow team.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of experience in cleaning and maintaining furniture, fixtures, offices, or buildings.
• Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license if vehicle operation is necessary for essential duties.
• Ability to handle and control heavy cleaning equipment and lift and move moderately heavy objects.
• Knowledge of procedures, methods, and materials needed for move work.
• Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions; learn quickly from demonstrations.
• Ability to keep necessary records.

Preferred

Knowledge of procedures and methods adequate for large‑scale cleaning and maintenance work.
