Job DescriptionProduct:
Standard / stock NEMA compliant industrial sheet metal electrical enclosures, sheet metal panels, internal parts made of steel, copper and aluminum. Products range in size from small brackets weighing less than one pound to enclosures the size of a small home.
Materials:
Mild carbon steel and light structural shapes. In limited quantities; aluminum, copper, galvanized mild steel and stainless steel.
Equipment used:
Mig welder, belt driven de-burring machine, CNC brake, CNC shear, CNC turret punch, CNC plasma torch, hand held plasma torch, basic manual / electrical / air hand tools commonly associated with manufacture / fabrication of industrial sheet metal products.
Minimum skills required:
- Operation of CNC controlled turret punch using G-codes.
- Trained in use of mig welding for welding of sheet steel 7 to 16 gauge and light structural shapes with minimal splatter, sheet warping and proper metallurgical penetration of the weld for maximum strength.
- Must be proficient in reading / using a ruler and basic math skills.
- Must be able to read mechanical prints.
- Trained in use of a metal brake.
- Training in use of basic hand tools.
- Must be reliable, dependable and have attention to workmanship detail.
- Must demonstrate safe work habits and had safety awareness training.
- Must have basic hand tools per company minimum tool list for sheet metal fabricators
Duties Include:
Cutting steel - using drawings provided by engineering, the employee is required to place sheets of steel, using overhead crane if necessary, onto the metal shear and cut to length. For iron shapes, stock is placed into the ironworker or rotary chop saw and cut to length.
Bending steel - use the CNC controlled brake with back-gauge, sheet steel is placed into the brake and bent per the engineering drawings. Bending is done by one or two fabricators depending on the sheet size, determination is made by the manager.
Hole punching - using an ironworker, turret punch, plasma torch, magnetic drill, drill press, or handheld drill; employee is required to be able to use all equipment and to select the best method to efficiently, accurately, safely and astatically work the metal to produce the opening specified by engineering.
Product assembly - For standard product, working from engineering drawings, the employee must be able to, place cut structural and / or formed mild steel into a jig assembly, clamp into jig box and welded together. Work tables, job stations and jigs have been designed for ergonomic worker body position and worker efficiency. Job stations for enclosures and subassemblies parts / panels have been designed to;
reduce worker fatigue, minimize back, shoulder and knee stress, enhance worker body position for worker productivity and quality workmanship.
