Job Summary
The Research Scientist position will contribute to the development of innovative materials for organic electronics applications. Duties include modeling, design, and synthesis of organic and organometallic compounds, with an emphasis on the molecular design and synthesis of novel small molecules to understand their optoelectronic properties. This role collaborates closely with our computational team to generate new lead compounds for UDC's R&D program.
Key Responsibilities- Perform route design, synthesis, purification, analysis, and characterization of small to medium scale organic and organometallic compounds.
- Troubleshoot challenging synthetic reactions and develop new transformations toward novel molecular architectures.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of organic electronic material properties to ideate toward innovative new compounds.
- Be a part of cutting‑edge technology development in a dynamic, team‑oriented environment.
- Collaborate with chemists, engineers, and materials scientists to further improve materials and devices.
- Stay up to date with scientific literature.
- Write and interpret technical information and communicate effectively with peers and management.
- Take responsibility for instrument maintenance and other lab duties.
- PhD in chemistry, materials science, or related field.
- In‑depth understanding and proven experience with synthesis and characterization of organic and organometallic compounds.
- Ability to plan and execute complex multi‑step syntheses.
- Demonstrated understanding of organic and organometallic reaction mechanisms.
- Knowledge of modern analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC, UV, IR) and instrumentation for the characterization of organic compounds.
- Experience with basic computer software and internet applications including Chem Draw, Origin, and MS Office suite.
- Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal direction.
- Ability to perform and succeed in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with peers and management.
- Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems efficiently and proactively.
- Demonstrated track record of accuracy and thoroughness.

Annual compensation range: $105k–$120k. Base pay is one part of the total compensation package. Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the annual salary range only and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
